
Dial-Up
Networking on Linux with Red Hat
or Fedora
Note: The guide assumes that a modem is configured on
the system as the device
/dev/modem. If your modem uses a different device
name, replace /dev/modem with your device when asked for it,
or as root make a symlink and then follow these steps.

or modem brand recommendation please consult one of our
technicians.
Follow these steps to
configure your Red Hat or Fedora system to access the
Internet with a dial up connection.
I. Dial-Up Connection
1. Click the
RedHat
menu, then select System Tools,
and click on the Internet
Connection Wizard.
2. In case the system ask for a password,
enter the root password. Then the
Add new Device Type
window will appear. In that window, select
Modem connection as your
device type and click Forward.
3. The wizard will look on your system for a
modem. If you got a message that No modem was found on your system, just press
OK.
4. On the
Select Modem
step, select the following:
After setting all those, click the
Forward button.
5. In the
Select Provider
step, we will type the the required information. Leave the
Prefix and
Area Code fields in
blank. In the Phone number
field type the access number for your area including the area
code without dashes. Metro Area users type 7874749980. Users
outside Metro Area check
here
for your
access number.
6. In
Provider Name,
type Mundolink.Net.
7. In
Login Name enter
your username.
8. In
Password type
your password on both fields. After completing this form,
click Forward.
9. In the
IP Settings step, check that
Encapsulation
Mode has sync PPP,
and the option Automatically
obtain IP address settings is selected, and
Automatically obtain DNS
information from provider is checked. Now click
Forward.
10. In owr last step, verify that the information is
correct, and then press Apply.
11. The configuration is saved, now the system present
you the Network Configuration
window. From this one you will be able to connect to the
Internet, just select the mundolink connection from the list bellow, and click
on the Activate button at
the top.
12. Any time you want to connect to the
Internet in the future, the Network Configuration tool can be found on the
Red Hat menu,
System Settings and click
on Network.
You have
configured Linux for dial up access. Enjoy your Internet
connection.
