Dial-Up
Networking on
Mac OS
To configure Mac OS 7-9 for dial up access follow the instructions
outlined below. Those instructions are divided in two sections:
TCP/IP and
PPP. We start with
TCP/IP.
I. TCP/IP
1. In the Apple Menu (top
left), go down to Control Panels
then TCP/IP. Ignore this window
for now. Go to File and
Configurations.
2. There will be a set called
Default. Highlight this with the
mouse and select Duplicate. Name
the set Mundolink.Net, and press
OK.
3. As this is a modem connection, in the
Connect via box select
PPP, and in the
Configure box select
Using PPP Server.
4. Insert 196.12.161.1 and
196.12.161.2 as the name server
addresses.
5. Click the box at the top left to close the window and select
Save when prompted.
II. PPP
6. Back to the
Apple Menu. Go
to Control Panels and select
PPP. Again, ignore the window
that appears and go to File and
Configurations.
7. Once again, there will be a
Default set. Highlight this and select
Duplicate. Name this set
Mundolink.Net,
then press OK .
8. Click on
Make Active.
9. In the PPP window enter
your username, password. In the number
field type the access number for your area. Metro Area users type
787-474-9980.
Users outside Metro Area check
here for
your
access
number.
10. Click on
Options
and make sure the following options are as specified here:
- Redial -> OFF
- Use Verbose Logging -> Uncheck
- Launch status application when connecting -> Uncheck
- Flash icon in menu bar while connected -> Check
- Prompt every 5 minutes to maintain connection -> Uncheck
- Disconnect if idle for 10 minutes -> Uncheck
- Use protocol -> PPP
- Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications ->
Uncheck
- Allow error correction and compression in modem -> Check
- Use TCP header compression -> Check
- Connect to a command line host -> Uncheck

11. That's it, now click
OK to
save the configuration.

configured Mac OS for dial up access.
