Dial-Up
Networking on Windows 98 & ME
To configure Windows 95, 98 or ME for dial up
access follow the instructions outlined below. Those instructions
are divided in two sections: Dial-Up
Connection, and the Connection
Shortcut. We start with Dial-Up
Connection.
I. Dial-Up Connection
1. In the
Start Menu (bottom
left), select Programs,
then go up to Accessories, then
Communications, and click on the
Internet Connection Wizard.
2. The Internet Connection Wizard will appear onscreen. From the
three options, with your mouse select the third one that begins
with: I want to set up my Internet
connection manually, and select Next.
3. Now you have two options to choose from. Check
that the first option I connect through
a phone line and a modem is selected, and press
Next. Important, if that option
is not available, you have to take your computer to a technician.
4. First, go to the option
Dial using
the area code and country code and remove the checkmark with
a mouse click, then click inside the Telephone number field, and type the access number for your
area. Metro Area users type 787-474-9980. Users outside Metro Area
check
here for your
access
number. After you enter the number, press
Next.
5. Enter your username and password and press
Next.
6. In
Connection name, type
Mundolink.Net, then press
Next.
7. In case you are installing your Internet Connection for the
first time, select Yes in the
option Do you want to set up an Internet
mail account now?, then press Next.
8. If a previous mail account exists on your computer, you will
have the option of Create a new Internet
mail account, or Use an existing
Internet mail account. Select the first one, and click
Next.
9. Enter your first and last name, for example: Jack Trades.
10. Type your Mundolink e-mail address in the
E-mail address box, then click
Next. The address usually is
your username@mundolink.net.
11. Now we have to specify the e-mail server. First
check that the smaller field says: POP3. In the
lower fields type the following:
- Incoming mail server:
pop3.mundolink.net
- Outgoing mail server:
pop3.mundolink.net
Then press Next.
12. Type your username and password. Verify that
Remember password option has a checkmark, and press
Next.
13. Remove the checkmark from the option:
To connect to the Internet immediately,
select this box and press Finish, and at last press
Finish.
14. Internet connection is done, now we are going to create a
shortcut to your new created Internet account. Continue with the
next section.
II. Connection Shortcut
